I offer on-location photography for individual families and extended families all over the Charleston area. I maintain licenses in Charleston, Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, and Kiawah Island. How do you book a portrait session in Charleston?

There are a few things that you’ll want to think about in booking your portrait photographer in Charleston, SC.

• Determine your dates. Be flexible if possible. We often run into afternoon rain showers in the summer months and may need to adjust your session date/time according to the weather that day.
• Choose a photographer whose work exemplifies the photography style you’d like for your own portraits.
  • Make sure the photographer you choose is licensed and insured. It’s okay to ask! In fact, the photographers who are licensed and insured will welcome these questions, and we might even be impressed.
• Choose a location. Not sure where you want to do your photography session? No problem. I’m always happy to help guide the process and make recommendations to match your interests.

First, let’s talk about backdrops. Is the backdrop for your portrait session important? Obviously, but you are the focal point in all of your photos. The location is secondary. How can we make you shine in your surroundings is the real question. Kind of like our clothing choices, it’s important to choose a location in Charleston that fits your personality and your comfort zone. If you hate sand, the beach may not be for you, and that’s okay!

Downtown Charleston

Charleston offers so many beautiful backdrops for your photography session. Downtown Charleston is a portrait photographer’s dream, at least mine anyway. ✨ I honestly had dreams about walking the side streets downtown near Rainbow Row before I ever moved here, but that’s a story for another day. Let’s get to the downtown locations by style.

Waterfront Park is the home of the iconic Pineapple Fountain. ‘Alleyways’ of live oak trees line the walkway throughout the middle of the park, creating a fantastic visual for your portraits. Park benches are scattered throughout the area, perfect for people watching. Waterfront Park is surrounded by wrought iron gates that add texture to any image. Waterfront Park, true to its namesake, overlooks the Charleston harbor, offering yet another great backdrop for your session with a portrait photographer in Charleston, SC.

As if all of this wasn’t enough already, Waterfront Park is surrounded by historic buildings and is a short walk to Rainbow Row (yes, we can do both!).
